2011 Ford Mondeo

Ford of Europe is launching the most stylish and technologically advanced Ford Mondeo model ever. With a fresh, restyled exterior, an enhanced interior, plus new high-efficiency Ford EcoBoost petrol and TDCi diesel powertrains and a host of new driver comfort and convenience features and safety technologies, the new Mondeo completes the rejuvenation of Ford's large car range, and takes its position as the flagship model in the company's European portfolio.

Following significant updates to the Ford S-MAX and Galaxy, the new Ford Mondeo is the latest Ford car to benefit from the continuing evolution of Ford kinetic design, with subtle visual differences incorporated into key areas such as the front and rear end.

The Ford Mondeo interior has also benefitted from a comprehensive rework with changes to the centre console and door panels, plus a range of new, high quality materials.

New Mondeo will see the first application of a higher performance 240 PS derivative of the efficient new 2.0-litre Ford EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, joining the existing 203 PS version of this engine, introduced in Ford Mondeo, new S-MAX and new Galaxy early in 2010.

The latest Ford Mondeo also introduces a comprehensively revised version of the 2.2-litre Ford Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, which boasts a 12 per cent power increase to 200 PS, making it the most powerful Ford Duratorq diesel engine so far.

As development of the 2011 Ford Mondeo continues, speculation is growing as to how well the latest evolution of Ford's 'Kinetic' design language will translate to the older-generation Mondeo body.

The most recent batch of spy photos of a 2011 Mondeo test car had camouflaging extending across the boot-lid section, suggesting a rear-end tweak and new tail-lights will join the front-end facelift.

It's hard to discern any major details underneath the black taping on this prototype's nose and rear, but it's clear that the upper grille has been narrowed, while the bumper intakes are likely to take on styling more in-line with the 2011 Focus.

Powertrain details for the updated Mondeo are scant, however the current-generation 2010 Mondeo has recently gained Ford's ecoboost four-cylinder petrol engine in Europe, and an updated TDCi engine will appear in Australia later this year.

Market launch dates are still a secret, but expect the facelifted Ford Mondeo to surface internationally later this year.

2011 Ford Explorer

The 2011 Ford Explorer has been redesigned from bottom to top, inside and out, to reflect a contemporary vision of what customers today want in a modern SUV."Ford has changed everything about the all-new Explorer, yet it's still instantly and instinctively recognizable as a Ford Explorer," said Moray Callum, executive director of North America Design. "Explorer has the height, stance, ground clearance and SUV cues that clearly indicate its off-the-beaten-path capabilities."The Ford Explorer design team was challenged with reinterpreting the segment-defining icon as a modern, contemporary SUV for the 21st century."The new Ford Explorer starts with proportions and stance," Betancourt said. "Its agile, fluid lines combine with the muscular toned sheet metal, delivering athletic good looks and unsurpassed aerodynamics. The liftgate spoiler lip and the flexible lower air dam - integrated into the fascia - harmonize to provide wind tunnel-proven fuel economy. Blackened rockers lift the eye, denoting Ford Explorer's rugged four-wheel-drive capability and driver empowerment."Strong, body-color C-pillars and blackened D-pillars are traditional Ford Explorer cues, while the blackened A-pillars and B-pillars provide a fresh new wraparound daylight opening.
